On the summer of 2016 I joined the Harvard Innovation Lab as a design intern working under room2learn, a project helping teachers design the classroom of the 21st century. At room2learn, I helped launch a nationwide campaign titled, Hack Your Classroom, inviting teachers all across America to submit their classroom designs.
The campaign was met with great success. I negotiated sponsorship deals with Field Notes and CW Pencil Enterprise. Additionally, I designed room2learn’s marketing collateral, gaining recognition in the Huffington Post and
Smithsonian Magazine.
As a designer at room2learn, I had the opportunity to do qualitative research in schools across the Boston area. We visited schools and asked teachers, administrative staff, and students their opinions were about the design of their school.
The highlight of this project was conducting a study at Madison Park High School, a school with a 56% graduation rate. The study aimede to identify areas of opportunity in color, iconography, and the school’s wayfinding system and develop a design solution to support the school. I supported the study by prototyping redesigned school spaces.
How might we improve academic outcomes through design?
